As you may of heard by now, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles have joined forces to create some of the peppiest, joyous dance music under the moniker Discovery. Their debut full-length is set to release in the States on July 7th, and is available for pre-order at Insound. The duo have already given a large sample of what to expect by streaming four of the ten tracks on their website. “Orange Shirt”, “Osaka Loop Line”, “So Insane”, and “Swing Tree” are available for listening below. The R&B tinged “Orange Shirt” exposes the groups swift pop sensibilities, while “Osaka Loop Line’s” stuttering beats is a guaranteed summer jam. Keep an eye out for this one.
Diplo and DJ Switch comprise Major Lazers, one of the most anticipated albums of the summer apart the indie/club scene. Below is the first single/video off of their debut album, Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do set for release June 16th. The concept of the video/song is the story of ”a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984,” making his way around in style much similarly to Silver Surfer. Mr. Lexx and Santigold also offer their assistance on the track. Enjoy
Here’s a new video for Bat For Lashes second single “Pearls Dream” off her marvelous sophomore album, Two Suns. The album features the spiritual eeriness that Bat For Lashes has trademarked, and Yeasayer’s Ira Wolf Tuton is featured on bass.
As Sigur Ros‘ frontman Jonsi’s side-project with Alex Somers Riceboy Sleeps is growing nearer it’s release (slated for July 20th via Parlophone records) , news has now surfaced that Sigur Ros is currently in the works of their sixth LP, which is planning to be released date sometime next year. So far, the album has been simply described by the band as being “slower,” “more ambient,” and “more out there”.
In addition, Sigur Ros are now planned to perform for the Dalai Lama when he makes his appearance in Reykjavík, Iceland on June 2nd. They plan to perform their 2002 collaborated performance ”Odin’s Raven Magic” with composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson.

The album will be entitled Everything Goes Wrong, and will be released via In The Red Records. David Gahan successfully had a tumor removed from his bladder yesterday, and plans to resume the Depeche Mode 2009 world tour will begin on their June 8th outing. After dealing with a severe case of gastroenteritis, Gahan was rushed to the hospital only to find out that a “low-grade malignant tumor” had been spotted. In result, May 30’s planned show at London’s O2 Arena, possibly the biggest show of the tour, has been pushed back to as-of-now unknown date. DM will also be unable to perform at Holland’s Pinkpop Festival on May 31st.
DM had this to say about the shows apart of their tour that they had no other option but to cancel: “Every effort continues to be made to reschedule these shows and more time is needed to resolve venue availability and routing. A final decision is expected early next week, at which time a statement will be made with regards to either a rescheduled date or final cancellation.”
