Fresh Track: MGMT – “Flash Delirium”

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

With their mucho anticipated Sophomore album Congratulations coming out on April 13, MGMT have revealed today their first offering from the album with a song called “Flash Delirium”. Head over to their newly designed web site here to download the track. “Flash Delirium” definitely helps to put my natural pessimism’s aside toward the album. It more or less rocks.

James Murphy/Noah Baumbach

As recently and unendingly reported, LCD Soundsystem has a big year planned. In addition to performing at this year’s Bonnaroo in June, LCD Soundsystem has provided the entire soundtrack for the new Noah Baumbach film Greenberg – starring the recently avatarized Ben Stiller — and also has his third full-length set to drop on May 18 — check the album details here.

This fresh track, ripped from NME radio (via We All Want Something to Shout For) is one that will appear on the Greenberg soundtrack. “Oh You (Christmas Blues)” emphasizes James Murphy’s attempt at 70’s pop-rock — which apparently, the entire soundtrack will consist of — and features the English lad giving his best solo Lennon impersonation (with satisfying success!)

DOWNLOAD MP3: Washed Out – “Untitled track 07″

This new, instrumental track from chillwave artist Washed Out doesn’t have a name just yet, but has been included on a new CDR that has been given out at each of his most recent gigs (via GvsB). Washed Out performed the past two nights at the Mercury Lounge in New York, revealing a full backing band.

Below, is a video taken from Washed Out’s first night at the Lounge performing “Belong”.

Fresh Track: Screaming Females – “Arm Over Arm”

DOWNLOAD MP3: Screaming Females – “Arm Over Arm”

The Screaming Females are currently hard at work on their fourth full-length due out this fall via Don Giovanni records. This fresh track, “Arm Over Arm,” picks up where the Jersey trio left off last year on the bombastic Power Move. Like little energetic sticks of dynamite, the Screaming Females have the tenacity and melodiousness of the Ramones, while singer Marissa Paternoster sounds like a young and self-assured Carrie Brownstein.

Fresh Track: Minus the Bear – “My Time”

DOWNLOAD MP3: Minus the Bear – “My Time”

As reported earlier, Minus the Bear have a new album coming out on May 4 via Dangerbird called Omni. Focused on the record sounding more “optimistic” than their work prior, Minus the Bear were more dedicated to finding an upbeat sound with the help from producer Joe Chiccarelli (the White Stripes and My Morning Jacket).

“My Time,” the first single released today as a free download from the band’s website exemplifies their new approach by creating an electronica mish-mosh of cheap technology with vocalist Jake Snider sounding like Fall Out Boy off their meds. C’mon, you cant tell me that you don’t want to hear that! Stream/download above.

Fresh Track – Tanlines – “Real Life (Basic Needs remix)”

DOWNLOAD MP3: Tanlines – “Real Life (Basic Needs Remix)”

Tanlines is one of my favorite bands out right now. They have a new EP coming out on March 9 entitled Settings via True Panther/Matador and to help celebrate, the band will be performing a release party tonight at Monster Island Basement tonight along with labelmates Lemonade and Janka Nabay — both acts also have EP’s that dropping that day.

This remix from Basic Needs stays pretty true to form, only adding some additional flashy synths and delayed keys, enhancing it’s party vibe (if even possible).

Fresh Track: Smashing Pumpkins – “A Stitch in Time”

DOWNLOAD MP3: Smashing Pumpkins – “A Stitch In Time”

It does feel a bit weird posting a new song from the Corgan ran Smashing Pumpkins after just discussing how rad it was that Pavement left their ubiquitous jab into the Smashing Pumpkins line in when they performed “Range Life” yesterday in New Zeland, but I guess that’s the nature of the music blogging game.

This new one entitled “A Stitch in Time,” apart of Corgan’s 44-song project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope features Corgan on an acoustic with some bouncy organ riffs in accompaniment. A trend has been forming from these songs thus far; one where Corgan almost sounds happy… WE’RE ALL DOOMED.

Fresh Track: Titus Andronicus – “A More Perfect Union”

DOWNLOAD MP3: Titus Andronicus – “A More Perfect Union”

The Jersey heavyweights Titus Andronicus return with their Sophomore LP The Monitor (Neon’s March Spotlight), a civil war inspired conceptual disc that lasts over 70 minutes long. This new/ first track, “A More Perfect Union,” is the album opener and reinvites it’s listener into the world that Titus Andronicus occupies. Full of Springsteen references, literary critiques and Conor Obertsisms. Where a seven-minute punk song doesn’t seem unusual. Much like The Airing of Grievances, Titus Andronicus offer their gut-wrenching bravado with a bit of comforting sensitivity as well.

What better time to post a “Summertime Remix” than during a terribly annoying, record setting, winter blizzard? Today feels like perfect day to overcome the hardships of living in the Northeast with a little help from Passion Pit. Stream/Download this brand new remix of the Shout Out Loud’s “Fall Hard” off of their latest LP Work above – check the review here while enjoying the funky, syncopated beats of P Pit combined with the lilting romanticism of the Shout Out Louds.

Fresh Track: We Are Scientists – “Rules Don’t Stop”

WAS

With their third full-length entitled: Barbara due out this June via PIAS, We Are Scientists have offered up the brand new single “Rules Don’t Stop” for download (above via YANP). Lasting a bit over two minutes, the quick sampler finds the band attempting to delve even further into the world of Pop-Rock stardom (which they may very well have already achieve overseas.) The production definitely sounds improved, with frontman Keith Murray declaring: “Rules don’t stop me, forget about it” over the chorus.

A bit difficult to stomach at first, but a must listen for any WAS fans.
