The National Debut New Song “Terrible Love” on Fallon

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the National debuted the opening track “Terrible Love” off of their forthcoming album High Violet, which is due out on May 11 via 4AD, and the song is just plain and simply amazing.

It starts off almost treading the territories of stadium rock along the lines of U2, but swiftly draws away from such calculations, slowly building momentum to a chill-inducing crescendo that is both breathtaking and genius, confirming that these guys are really that great at what they do. High Violet is bound to be one staggering accomplishment. Check the video below.

The Strokes Confirmed to Play Lollapalooza

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Already announcing that their first LP in nearly four years will hopefully see the light of day come September, the Strokes made it clear that they didn’t have much planned for the year in terms of touring other than some summer music festivals. Well today, it’s been confirmed that one of those music festivals that the Strokes will be performing will indeed be this years Lollapalooza.

“We’re getting the biggest offers of our career,” Casablancas said, speaking with the Chicago Tribune. “It feels great, because I remember people writing things like ‘We’ll see if they’re still around in 10 years’ when we first came out.”

Here We Go Magic Announce New LP Pigeons; Release First Single

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Here We Go Magic all started as a project by folksy frontman Luke Temple in which he sought out to find some musical assistance that would be able to keep up with his keen sense of pop-leaning songs that were both accessible and intelligent. Their self-titled debut reached high levels of critical success and it’s pretty easy to see why.

Yesterday, Here We Go Magic announced their follow-up LP, an 11-song album entitled Pigeons that will be released on June 8 via Secretly Canadian. Above, you can find the artwork, while below is the tracklist. The band also released the first single “Collector” from the record which can be all yours in exchange for an email address. Woods Announce New LP Echo Lake

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

DOWNLOAD MP3: Woods – “I Was Gone”

After releasing their definitive debut album last year with Songs of Shame, the Brooklyn freak-folk Woods have revealed the proper follow-up with a sophomore record named Echo Lake. Above, is the simplistic but pleasant artwork for it, along with a fresh track off the album called “I Was Gone,” a barely two-minute, familiarly lo-fi recording with some acoustic guitar jamming, tambourine, and everything else that makes Woods, well, Woods.

Echo Lake will be released on May 11 via Woodsists — which makes sense, since Woods’ frontman Jeremy Earl runs it.

Echo Lake’s tracklist:

New Video: Big Boi feat. George Clinton & Too $hort – “Fo Yo Sorrows”

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

“Fo Yo Sorrows,” a song dropped by Outkast’s Big Boi late last year that featured George Clinton and Too $hort, should have become the blunt rolling anthem of 2010. Somehow, it didn’t. Regardless, the song is tight, and today, a video directed by Zach Wolfe and Dr. Dax emerged on the interweb, with psychedelics and fog machines in tact.

Oh and did I mention that it pretty much features George Clinton getting high on set/in the video? That must be a pre-requisite by now to have Mr. Clinton participate in any sort of event. Probably a pretty expensive extra. Check out the video below and try to avoid a contact high.

Broken Bells Take “The High Road” to Letterman

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

With their debut LP dropping yesterday, the Danger Mouse/James Mercery established Broken Bells dropped by The Late Show with David Letterman last night to perform the albums first single “The High Road”.

Mouse on percussion and Mercer on an acoustic, the two (along with some help) executed the standout track with impressive precision, but unfortunately, left the concluding bridge to the track out — one of my, and I’m sure many peoples favorite sections of the song.

Letterman ranted about the album’s packaging, while Mouse and Mercer stood in the background, looking rather unamused, most likely due to the sudden and unexpected death of their close friend Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse. Nice going Dave. Check out the video below.

New Video: Real Estate – “Suburban Dogs”

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The northern Jersey band Real Estate has been on the rise since last year when they released their laid-back, stoner-friendly self-titled debut. Comprised of Martin Courtney, Etienne Pierre Duguay, Matt Mondanile — Ducktails — and Alex Bleeker — Alex Bleeker and the Freaks — is it fair to say that Real Estate has reached the status of being an indie rock supergroup of some sort? I think so.

For those of you unfamiliar, check out this new music video of “Suburban Dogs” below provided by P4k.

Neon got the chance to chat with Real Estate at the end of last year. Check out the interview here.

The Knife – Tomorrow, In A Year Review

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Review by Sheila Dichoso

The Knife defy convention. They don’t conform to media machinations and the synthetic music business. They resist becoming products of the industry: They choose to be faceless by performing in Venetian masks; They refuse to attend glitzy award shows like the Grammi’s (the Swedish equivalent to the Grammys) even though they usually sweep the shit out of them; Karin Dreijer Andersson, as her alter ego Fever Ray, is so elegantly grotesque she puts Lady Gaga to shame.  And frankly, they don’t give a flying fuck what you think.
