It’s been years now that musicians and fans alike have been protesting their demands for Iggy Pop and the Stooges to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, it took the death of former Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton to finally prove the band worthy to the board. But it is official. The Stooges will finally receive their appropriate induction at 2010’s event. Iggy Pop had this to say to Rolling Stone about the bands induction:

We’ve been rejected seven times, and we would have set a record, I think, if it happened again,” Pop stated. He went on to further add: “It started to feel like Charlie Brown and the football. I had about two hours of a strong emotional reaction after hearing the news. It felt like vindication. Then I kind of scratched my head and thought, ‘Am I still cool? Or is that over now?’ ”

Oh quit being coy…

The other leading inductees are Genesis, the Hollies, and ABBA.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges will also be playing Raw Power in it’s entirety at next year’s ATP events in London and upstate New York.
