Ohio rapper Kid Cudi was pulled over yesterday in Los Angeles due to a case of mistaken identity in which he found himself defenseless at gunpoint. After leaving the Joyrich store on Melrose Avenue, his crew, who were in two SUV’s, found themselves being pulled over by an officer on Fairfax Avenue. Three police vehicles slowly pulled up next to Cudi’s vehicles, before eventually pulling them over and demanding that all the passengers drop to their knees with their hands behind their heads.

At this point, the officer realized the mistake that had been made, and allowed Kid Cudi and his entourage to go. The officer later explained that Cudi was mistakenly identified as a past burglar of the Joyrich store who the LAPD were still in search of.

Afterwards, Kid Cudi addressed the hairy situation, telling NME: “Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch,” he said. “I’m just happy to be back. I’m a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable.”

Cudi also added that he had no hostility for the LAPD after the incident, stating: “We’re in LA, it’s a rowdy place in the United States, you know? And a lot of shit goes down. And these cops have to use force. So it’s, like, I understand that they were doing their job. I just wish we weren’t in that place at that time.”
